Sleutelcompetentie: andere talen
In deze sleutelcompetentie is er aandacht voor het gebruik van andere talen als mondelinge en schriftelijke communicatiemiddelen. De communicatieve vaardigheden staan centraal: lezen, luisteren, schrijven, spreken en interactie. Er wordt van leerlingen verwacht dat ze andere talen kunnen gebruiken als communicatiemiddel in relevante situaties, zoals dienstverlening, vrije tijd en sociale contacten. Daarbij moeten de leerlingen strategieën leren inzetten om de communicatie te optimaliseren, zoals voorkennis inzetten, tekstverbanden herkennen of de betekenis van onbekende woorden afleiden uit de context.
Talen zijn niet enkel communicatiemiddelen
Ter ondersteuning van doelgerichte communicatie moeten de leerlingen ook inzicht hebben in de kenmerken en principes van andere talen als taalsystemen. Het gaat concreet over spraakkunst, woordenschat, betekenissen, uitspraak en spelling. Een andere taal wordt ook beschouwd als exponent van een andere cultuur. Talen zijn niet enkel communicatiemiddelen, maar ook dragers van culturele identiteit.
In andere talen wordt er ten slotte ingezet op literatuurbeleving. Via een 'tekstbelevende' aanpak leren de leerlingen gedachten en gevoelens verwoorden bij het lezen en beluisteren van literaire teksten zoals gedichten, kortverhalen en filmfragmenten.
