Uitsluiting en discriminatie
Discriminatie is het ongelijk behandelen van een andere persoon op basis van persoonlijke kenmerken. In België is discriminatie tegenover een persoon op basis van specifieke kenmerken strafbaar. De antidiscriminatiewetgeving bestaat uit drie verschillende wetten: de Genderwet, de Antiracismewet en de Antidiscriminatiewet.
Verschillende discriminatieachtergronden
Daarnaast kan discriminatie ook verschillende achtergronden hebben, racisme is hier een voorbeeld van. Iemand wordt niet geselecteerd voor een sollicitatiegesprek omdat zijn achternaam 'niet-Europees is' of iemand wordt uitgescholden vanwege zijn/haar huidskleur. Net zoals discriminatie manifesteert racisme zich op verschillende wijzes: door discriminerende gedragingen, daden, uitlatingen … De wet verbiedt het daarom ook om bepaalde groepen te viseren op basis van huidskleur, afkomst, etnische afstamming, …
Daarnaast kan discriminatie ook voorkomen in andere vormen: personen kunnen gediscrimineerd worden op basis van hun seksuele geaardheid, godsdienst, handicap, leeftijd of gender.
Herinneringseducatie
Leerlingen groeien op in superdiverse klassen met grote culturele, sociale en etnische verschillen. Hun kijk op de wereld is daarom zeer belangrijk. Het doel van herinneringseducatie is niet alleen het leren begrijpen van het verleden, maar ook om leerlingen bewust te maken van de gevolgen van bepaalde mechanismen. Daarom is het belangrijk om uit het verleden te leren en te bouwen aan een toekomst met vrijheid, openheid en verdraagzaamheid voor andere culturen en gewoonten.
