Zo werk je aan kinderrechten in de klas.
Het Kinderrechtenverdrag werd in 1989 aangenomen door de Algemene Vergadering van de Verenigde Naties (VN) en werd in 1991 ook door België aangenomen. Het Verdrag geldt voor al wie jonger is dan 18 jaar en verwijst herhaaldelijk naar het belang van onderwijs in de ontplooiing van elk kind. Volgens het Verdrag:
- hebben kinderen recht op onderwijs (Artikel 28);
- hebben kinderen rechten in het onderwijs (Artikel 28);
- worden kinderrechten verwezenlijkt door onderwijs (Artikel 29).
Breng kinderrechten tot leven
Om ervoor te zorgen dat alle kinderrechten voor ieder kind ten volle gerealiseerd worden, kan het onderwijs een enorm belangrijke rol spelen! Via kinderrechteneducatie en een kinderrechtenaanpak kan jij als leerkracht dit belangrijke en veelzijdige thema mee tot leven brengen in je klas!
Wil je een stapje verder gaan en kinderrechten en wereldburgerschap in de hele schoolcultuur integreren? Dan kan je als school een trajectbegeleiding aanvragen om het label van een school for rights te verkrijgen.
Kinderrechten toepassen in je klas
Kinderen hebben niet enkel recht op onderwijs, maar hebben eveneens recht op mensenrechteneducatie, waaronder dus ook kinderrechten vallen. Door aandacht te besteden aan kinderrechten in de klas, kunnen we er samen voor zorgen dat deze kinderrechten gerealiseerd worden. Bovendien kan werken aan kinderrechten in de klas je klaspraktijk verrijken. Een kinderrechtenkader biedt namelijk een antwoord op pesten, diversiteit, gelijke kansen, armoede … Dit gebeurt door de leerlingen niet enkel te onderwijzen OVER kinderrechten, maar DOOR eveneens zelf een kinderrechtenaanpak toe te passen, zodat leerlingen VOOR hun rechten en die van anderen kunnen opkomen.
Kinderrechtencommissariaat
Bots jij op onrecht tegenover een kind of een jongere, dan kan je terecht bij het Kinderrechtencommissariaat. Zij onderzoeken onafhankelijk klachten van kinderen, jongeren, ouders en professionals over mogelijke schendingen van kinderrechten. Ze bemiddelen en geven individueel advies.
