Guynemerpad: Walk over pilot Georges Guynemer during WWI

The Unknown Soldier is connected to each war. Hundreds of thousands disappeared in the First World War as anonymous victims of violence. But some of them live in history. One of them is the legendary French yacht pilot Georges Guynemer who came to life during a fierce air fight.

The death of Guynemer has been a mystery to date. His plane and body were never recovered, despite the many searches and modern technology. Also elderly people who suffered the war and died in the meantime had heard or not heard the Guynemer tomb with a screw on it or found it. Only in the sixties came many of those stories, but the dozens of contradictory statements were either uncontrollable or led to a dead track. Also these days, Poekapellenaren are still seriously concerned with this unresolved mystery.

During this walk, not only will you be reminded of the memory of the First World War, but also a dip in the local landscape of Poelkapelle.
