Foreign-speaking newcomers in the classroom: Study evening

Building bridges between OKAN education and further education.

In Flanders, the number of OKAN students (Reception Education for Foreign-Speaking Newcomers) increased from 2,000 to more than 8,000 students between 2017 and the beginning of 2023. In a very recent advisory text (OKAN/ISK and afterwards - Language Union), the General Secretariat of the Dutch Language Union maps out the challenges associated with the progression of newcomers to further education.

The Translation, Interpreting and Communication department of Ghent University is organizing a study evening, during which experts will discuss some aspects of the theme of foreign-speaking newcomers in the classroom: building bridges between OKAN education and further education .
