EDUbox Fake News: Interactive video lesson

The VRT EDUbox is digital and ready-made teaching material around one social theme. It contains text, videos, digital tools, interactive exercises and discussion moments.

Each EDUbox has different shapes. This is the interactive video lesson conceived as an individual learning path. Aurélie Boffé, journalist at VRT NWS is the host.

EDUbox Fake news

Your checklist for misleading information is an initiative of VRT in collaboration with the Arteveldehogeschool and Mediawijs, imec, the Flemish government, the European Union and Disinfocheck of EDMO BENELUX.

It is an interactive teaching package that teaches young people the difference between misleading information and fake news. They also learn how to unmask fake news, using a clear checklist and useful tools. The interactive lesson package is packed with information and knowledge from experts, and teaches them to critically deal with what they encounter online.

Initially they learn what fake news is. Then they discover why and how it is spread. They are introduced to the HALT method and learn which tools journalists use to fact check. As icing on the cake, the students get to work on a selection of news items themselves. Finally, they learn how to best respond when confronted with misleading information and fake news.
