French language portfolio


This language portfolio is primarily intended to give students a better insight into their knowledge and skills regarding a foreign language. It could also be used to reduce the bridge to secondary education.

In this portfolio you will find the three necessary components:

  • Language passport (European reference framework for a language passport; at the end of primary school, students should have achieved level A1. You can check this using the checklist. Here they can tick what they can do throughout the year, or at the end. In the table shows the minimum number of points students must have to meet the A1 level.)
  • Language biography (Where, when and how did children come into contact with foreign languages and more specifically with French. Ideal for assessing the initial situation of the students at the beginning of the school year.)
  • Language file (evolution of the student throughout the year. In this example you will find a self-evaluation where students also have to think about their achieved result, the cause and a suitable solution. The language file certainly does not only have to contain evaluations of tests. Also all kinds of works, songs, dialogues ... that the children made belong here.)

This language portfolio is not (yet) an official or required document. But after further French training, you sense a growing trend.

This encouraged me to draw up one for my class from the various existing portfolios. You can adapt it to your own needs in many ways.

This language portfolio could also be used for secondary education (first grade). After all, you can process various foreign languages in it. The self-evaluation would probably be quite extensive...
