Language Awareness in primary education: In a positive way to deal with languages in the classroom
Sofie Jonckheere, employee Cell Education and Multilingualism of the Regional Integration Centre Foyer Brussels goes deeper in this article on how to deal with non-native and multiculturalism in the classroom. All children come later rightly in a multicultural society. How can the teacher best prepare them there?
Language Awareness provides a positive answer to this question and the next three goals:
- Most importantly, the work on attitudes, namely the creation of openness and interest in languages and cultures as well as.
- A second objective is to gain knowledge. Students gain insight into other languages and cultures. Example, they learn that you do not write in any language from left to right.
- Finally, work on language skills. On the one hand this is about meta skills language learning and communicating promote. If you deal with different languages, it becomes easier to communicate with people who speak those languages.
