Is America still important?

There will be American presidential elections in November 2020. Traditionally, the Flemish media also pay a lot of attention to this. That makes sense, because the United States is the most important and powerful country in the world... Or, do you have your doubts about that? It sometimes seems as if America has lost its footing since 9/11 and the financial and economic crisis of 2008. There was the war in Iraq and Syria, racism and police brutality. President Trump also seems to be causing a dent in the image of the once all-powerful America. Is their power waning and will Russia, China or another country become the new superpower? Or is America's role far from over? Is the United States still a superpower? What does science say?
