In the Green House: STEM workshops

The Green House is a learning environment in Petrus and Paulus Ostend where students are challenged to set up experiments, process their data and formulate solutions. This is done in an innovative way by using sensors that, in addition to the traditional method, can also be read into a computer and the students' calculators.

All projects are STEM experiments and have a link with ecology. Eight workshops have been developed, such as measuring soil temperature, light intensity in the spotlights, etc. Each workshop starts with the conviction that a technical-scientific approach can provide a solution to a number of contemporary ecological problems.

In addition, information is provided in the Green House room that should provide the impetus for working on themes that transcend the scientific aspect. The focus is on three themes that have a high social relevance in our contemporary context, namely;

  • rational waste management,
  • global warming,
  • water shortage.

A train-the-trainer is provided for the teachers.
